Aiguaneix
2024-26
research project

Co-initiated with Anouchka Skoudy
and Caterina Miralles at La Escocesa

Aiguaneix started as a working group to reflect on our coexistence with the bodies of water that flow in La Escocesa. Although often treated as a mere resource, water flows are biological, historical, and social archives; ecological, political, and economic interconnections determine their distribution, capitalization, or scarcity.

Stemming from an interest in the management and use of water in the space, environment, and neighborhood of La Escocesa, Aiguaneix aims to create a space to ask ourselves questions about our present, past, and future practices and habits; about the composition of the water that arrives and resides in our shared space and its drainage patterns; the ways in which it fosters life and also the ways in which it is discarded: What bodies of water feed the flows that circulate in La Escocesa; and what traces do we, the bodies of water that inhabit it, leave behind? How do we circulate, filter, pool, and recycle? How much water do we use and how do we use it; could we use less? How was it used when it was a textile factory? What is the water we drink, paint with, mold with, or clean with that archive? Can we recirculate it or recycle it for production, dyeing, or irrigation?

Aiguaneix proposes a framework from which to generate tools and develop possible eco/hydrofeminist ways of inhabiting La Escocesa. It is, therefore, an attempt to live more attentively with the leaks, dampness, stagnation, and avoidable waste that occur in our collective space.
